Our last stop in Kerala was Kovalam,
and we splurged to stay in Niraamaya Resorts.
My goodness it was worth it... well worth it.
We had the most beautiful villa called "Mosque View"
because it had a perfect view of the sea (from our bed)
as well as views of the mosques.
Everything about Niraamaya was spot on...
the staff, the private beach, infinity pool and property.
Because the property was so gorgeous, we took full advantage.
We spent time at the pool and at the private beach
before exploring the nearby city, Kovalam.
A tuk tuk took us to the mosques, the beaches of Kovalam,
the lighthouse and through the very poor fishing villages
which is what I would imagine were the slums.
My heart hurt going through these poor areas.
And I couldn't bring myself to take photos...
How dare I take pictures of their lives while I buy nothing
- only selling fish -
and I get to go back to this amazing resort, have as much food as I'd like,
enjoy a warm shower and have clean drinking water...
I know it's life, and I know they find happiness
in all they have but it was a humbling experience.
And I was thankful... incredibly thankful
for a chance to experience this and for the life I live.
India was an experience...
lovely, colourful, exciting and humbling all rolled into one.
