Sri Lanka | Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe was our last stop before heading to the airport.
We took off before the sun came up,
and headed to the national park.

We slept half of the way there (2+ hours)
and was woken up by our driver to an elephant on the road.
He was a smart little (big!) guy...
he knew he could get tourists to give him food
and he was right!
People pulled over on the side of the road to feed him.

Not us.
We were off to the real safari.

We jumped in our jeep and headed in...
first few minutes and we saw water buffalo
and just a few minutes later, we saw elephants.

Udawalawe is over 300-sq-km and
the home to over 250 permanent Sri Lankan elephants.

It was amazing how close we got to these animals.
elephants - moms and babies - roaming in herds,
and males on their own.
Water buffalos, yellow jackal, monkeys, tucans,
peacocks, and more...

It was a magical experience seeing these amazing animals
in their own habitat and a perfect way to
end our Sri Lankan adventure.

A long day and a great end to our trip.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures...

and don't ask Ian about our flight home.
someone misread the flight details.
oops.

over 24 hours later and we made it home.

Sri Lanka | Ebb & Flow... and beaches

Ebb & Flow Jungalow was the highlight of our stay in
South Sri Lanka.

Not only was our private two-bedroom villa equipped
with a beautiful pool and private chef, it overlooked
the best surf break in the area... Rams Right.

Waking up and watching Ian surf every morning
from the balcony was awesome.
Being served coffee and breakfast by Indy
at the same time made it even better.

The owners of the Jungalow were super helpful,
really fun and Garrath was always up for surfing with Ian.

We spent days exploring
Unawatuna, Midigama, Weligama and Mirissa
by scooter (officially named Scooty Streak!)
finding quiet beaches, restaurants and surf breaks.

South Sri Lanka was more than we could
have ever expected...
and we'd go back in a heartbeat.

It was hard to pick just a few pictures...
we took thousands, so sorry for the picture overload.

one last post... that's it.
promise.
